The Ukrainian government, and NGOs providing support to the military, have raised $13.7 million through thousands of cryptocurrency donations since the start of the invasion according to a report from blockchain intelligence firm Elliptic.
Twitter accounts belonging to the Ukrainian government have posted pleas for cryptocurrency donations. The bitcoin wallet address to Ukraine government received 35.21651970 BTC at the time of writing this. A single donation worth $1.86 million purportedly arising from the sale of NFTs originally intended to raise funds for Julian Assange was diverted to Ukraine.

Several million dollars in cryptocurrency donations have also been received by Come Back Alive, a Ukrainian NGO which supports the military. On February 24th, the membership platform Patreon announced that it had suspended Come Back Alive’s page due to policy violations as a result of its military activity. This development may have contributed to an increase in Bitcoin donations observed on the morning of February 25th. At the time of writing this, the wallet address of the NGO received 171 bitcoin totaling US$ 66 million. It should be noted that the donations were dominated by one single donation of 80 BTC.
Other pro-Ukrainian organizations have also appealed for donations in crypto assets – including an NFT collection on Open Sea. The founders allege that the profits from any sales will be donated to Come Back Alive. Donors must also be wary of scamsters who may try to exploit the situation.
Separately, an Ethereum based token project called Help Ukraine ($HUKR) was created on 24th February and has been donating ETH to a fundraiser called Support Ukrainian Sovereignty, which in turn has pledged to distribute its funds amongst various Ukrainian charities. Support Ukrainian Sovereignty claims to have raised $281,769.
